One Hundred Miles and Counting!

Here’s a quick update as this afternoon I passed an important milestone.  Technically the difference between 99 miles and 100 miles is only 1760 yards but ,mentally it’s a huge hurdle to get over, yesterday I was still getting started, today I’ve passed that hurdle and now feel a lot happier about actually finishing the walk.

The momentous mile was completed somewhere on the cliff tops above Boscastle, around High Cliff but I must admit I missed the exact moment the 100 mile mark ticked over.

On the summit of High Cliff, North of Boscastle, the magic 100 miles happened about here.

As a sort of training run for this walk, last summer we went down to the South Downs and I walked the South Downs Way, with Sandra practising her support skills.  The South Downs Way was suspiciously a round hundred miles but I finished it in fine form, having enjoyed every minute.  However, it was finished, I didn’t need to carry on walking, that became Sandra’s task as she walked the Norfolk Coast Path and I became support.

After the South Down I felt that I could have carried on but today I strolled through the hundred mark and after reaching that milestone I can say that my arthritic toes and dodgy knee haven’t been an issue so if I can walk 100 miles then I can walk 1200, it might not fit the song but it’s a start.

100 miles fuelled by Cornish Pasties, at this rate it’ll be cream teas over in Devon, welsh cakes along Offa’s Dyke, Yorkshire pudding on the Pennine Way and haggis all through Scotland. If anyone has suggestions for major culinary inspirations through Staffordshire and Derbyshire please let me know.
